toric level on the alidade compensator |
The theodolite was made in 1979. Although small, its functionality is comparable to the larger, more complex Zeiss theodolites of the time. The positioning of the levels, compensator, the line microscope, repetition device and Reichenbach crosshairs simplify the measurement process. Measurement precision is lower compared to more complex instruments. The measurement resolution by evaluating a part of the graduation unit of the division is 30''.
The exhibit has two additional attachments - a tube mounted on the telescope to protect it from stray light, and an attachment for observing steep lines of sight. A compass can also be added.
The theodolite was used for teaching purposes for simple polar measurements and staking out. It is in the same condition as when it was originally taken out of service.
