The tacheometer was made in 1993. Like the TC1600, the instrument founded the size, design and functionality of the third generation of electronic tacheometers (1990-2005). It is a universal tacheometer of typical precision with a short-range (up to 2 km) phase distance meter. It measures direction with a precision of 1 mgon or 3'' and distances with a precision of 3 mm; 2 ppm. The instrument already allows the storage of measurement values on a special PCMCA card.

The Leica Wild TC1010 was one of the first integrated tacheometers at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering. The instrument was used mainly for teaching purposes in thesis work until 1997, but not extensively in practical classes. This is also evident in its condition, as it is almost new.
