The digital level was made in 1992. The Leica Wild NA 3000 is the successor to the legendary first digital level, the Wild NA 2000, introduced by the Swiss manufacturer in 1990. It was a landmark in the development of surveying technology, being one of the instruments that marked the beginning of the multisensor era in surveying technology. H. Ingensand was the first to solve the problem of fully automating the levelling process - determining the reading on the staff.

The digital level captures an image of the staff with a barcode division and digitises it. The determination of the measurement value is based on digital image processing technology. The result is a reading on the staff, which is displayed on the screen and stored in the instrument's memory. The precision of the level is 0.4 mm for 1 km double-run levelling. The instrument also enables electronic measurement of lengths up to 100 m with centimeter precision. It is in the same condition as when it was originally taken out of service.
