The precise tacheometer was made in 1993. The instrument is the first model of the special Leica Wild series of precision tacheometers that mark the history of electronic precision tacheometry (later Leica TC2003, Leica Geosystems TS30, TS50 and TS60).
The special feature of the instrument is the dynamic method of reading the angular values on the limbs. The process is based on the use of an incremental encoder, where the system determines the absolute value of the direction. The system measures the rotation time of a rotating glass circle to determine the value of the measured angle. The principle is the same as the digital method of determining the phase difference with phase distance meters. Although it was the most accurate way to determine the angular values of electronic theodolites, it was discontinued in the next Leica TC2003 model. The precision of the direction measurement is 0.15 mgon (0.5''). The instrument's phase distance meter provided the highest precision for measuring tacheometer lengths up to the TS30 model, with a precision of 1 mm; 1 ppm. The instrument takes 4 seconds for a usual measurement.
The instrument was used at University of Ljubljana, Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering for teaching work, mainly for diplomas, as well as for research and professional work for the measurement of precise geodetic micronets for the observation of the stability of structures and soils (hydroelectric power plant dams, tectonic faults). It is in the same excellent condition as when it was originally taken out of service at the end of the 1990s.
