The compensating level, manufactured in 1971, is a simple instrument without levelling foot screws. The Kern system, using a circular level, enables levelling by moving the conical support over the spherical head of a tripod adapted for it. The instrument is light, compact and very practical to use. Using a conventional levelling staff, a precision of 2.5 mm for 1 km double-run levelling can be achieved.
The instrument is in the same condition as when it was originally taken out of service.
