The precision optical plummet was made around 1960. The main function of this instrument is to provide a vertical line of sight axis. The instrument looks very similar to the Zeiss Koni 007 level. The essential difference is that the additional prism refracts the beam by 90°. Centring is done by an optical plummet, while levelling is done by a circular and toric level. A compensator ensures precise vertical orientation.

The instrument has a plumbing precision of 1 mm per 100 meters and is still fully functional and suitable for use in engineering geodesy where centric plumbing is required. It is in the same condition as when it was originally taken out of service.
